Reasons to Love Minnesota No. 36: Taqueria Victor Hugo No. 2

Where every day is Taco Tuesday

We’ve done the happy taco dance at La Alborada, Mercado Central, Andale Taqueria, Pajarito, Sonora Grill, Colita, and Centro. But the one Twin Cities taco joint we find ourselves returning to again and again (and again!) is Taqueria Victor Hugo No. 2, located inside the Mobil gas station convenience store attached to Bobby & Steve’s Auto World on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis.

Locals rave about the burritos and weekend specials such as menudo and pozole, but we’ve always been loyal to the $8.50 taco platter. The refried beans and rice are nothing special; where Victor Hugo really shines is through its stewy, juicy, tender meat fillings (barbacoa, al pastor, lengua, asado, carnitas, etc.). Bank on spending at least five minutes hovering over the salsa bar, ladling fiery red, electric orange, and neon green salsas over your tacos; showering them with cilantro, radish coins, and diced onions; and hitting them with a squeeze of lime at the end. Super fast, super casual, super filling, super delicious. ⁣🌮😍
