It’s Tulip Season at Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

Tulips and thalis, anyone?

Everything is coming up tulips at Minnesota Landscape Abroretum. More than 40,000 of them, in fact!

The volunteer we spoke with on Monday evening estimated that the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum’s beloved tulip display is “99.9 percent” in bloom right now — and it’s anyone’s guess how long it’ll last.

Horticulturist Duane Otto has designed the tulip displays at the Arb for the past 34 years. This year’s theme incorporates 135 varieties and celebrates the tulip’s incredible diversity of form and color.

And while tulips may hog the spotlight, they’re hardly the only thing in bloom. Other spring highlights include Celandine poppy, Virginia bluebells, Johnny jump-ups, snapdragons, and grape hyacinth. We just bought ourselves a family membership and look forward to checking in once a month to see what’s new.

Pro tip: After visiting the Arb, swing over to Thaliwala in Chanhassen, a new Indian restaurant from the Gorkha Palace crew. The namesake thalis are only served on weekends, so we went with bison momos, lamb vindaloo, palak paneer, garlic roti, and mango lassis — which Julian scarfed down with abandon. (Like his parents, this kid lives to eat.)
