Northern Clay Center Showcases Contemporary Black Ceramicists

This exhibition is the wheel deal

Falling on the heels of its annual American Pottery Festival, Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis has a great new exhibition on display in its main gallery. A Gathering: Works from ‘Contemporary Black American Ceramic Artists’ runs through October 30, with a public reception scheduled for Friday, October 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. (masks required).

The show was curated by Donald A. Clark and Chotsani Elaine Dean, the authors behind the new book Contemporary Black American Ceramic Artists, which is also for sale at NCC. It features an array of pieces by more than three dozen artists working with all kinds of materials: terracotta, walnut, maple, granite, white stoneware, black clay, engobe, and more.

Here’s just a small sampling:

Get out there before Halloween to see the rest.
