How Team Minnevangelist Staycations in Minneapolis

An observation deck, multistory murals, and a five-star hotel

Ever played tourist in your own city? That’s exactly what Team Minnevangelist got up to a few weeks ago when we finally (finally!) made it up to the outdoor observation deck at Foshay Tower (now the W Minneapolis), took a closer look at the five-story Bob Dylan mural by Eduardo Kobra in downtown Minneapolis, goofed around with Mary Tyler Moore, and spent the night at the beautiful new Four Seasons Hotel Minneapolis.

Our little staycation gave us a chance to check out Gavin Kaysen’s new Mediterranean restaurant Mara, where the chermoula-spiced chicken and beet tartare were our favorite dishes until the olive oil cake with labneh sorbet blew them away. We fell asleep to a rare (for us) bird’s eye view of downtown’s twinkling lights and woke up at 7am sharp to splash around in the hotel’s mostly empty indoor pool and bake in its spa sauna. (Mind you, we didn’t want to wake up that early — thanks, Julian!)

Despite acting like a bit of a jerk at Mara’s brunch, our budding hotel connoisseur was treated like royalty by the Four Seasons staff. They gave him a Paul Bunyan book and the cutest stuffed duck and left him a rabbit-eared spa robe and baby-friendly bath amenities in a wooden crib made up with sheets far nicer than anything we have at home. And for his exhausted parents: a S’mores spread complete with Minnesota-shaped graham crackers.

How do you staycation in the Twin Cities? Your ideas might inspire our next overnight outing!
