With a new baby in our orbit, we’ve been sending out a lot of thank you cards lately. While it’s easy to pick up a box from Target or Paper Source, we’d rather shop small — which is how we stumbled upon Blank Inside in Whittier.
The stationery and gift boutique was opened last spring by Jen Nylin, founder of clothing shop Jenny in the City. Credit for the clever name goes to her husband Steve. (Take note, Hallmark: The best cards really are blank.)
Inside you’ll find a wall o’ greetings—mostly birthday but also housewarming, good luck, congrats, wedding, anniversary, new baby, and sweet, funny, or sentimental missives for other special occasions. There are fun pop culture-themed cards starring characters from Ted Lasso, Parks & Rec, Schitt’s Creek, and Queer Eye, plus minimalist letterpress stationery from the bitingly hilarious Sapling Press. Buy any four cards and get 15 percent off.
Snail mail isn’t the only thing on tap either. Nylin has stocked up on tasteful gifts for BFFs, neighbors, co-workers, mothers-in-law, and anyone else who could use a little pick-me-up. Among the well-styled merch are colorful pillar candles, chic ceramic vases, boho planters, soothing bath bombs, sleep-inducing pillow mists, 612-themed wall art for folks with unflagging #MNpride, and “Be a Kind Human” snap-button baby onesies designed by the shopkeeper herself.
Follow @shopblankinside to find out about future Minnesota maker pop-ups. Past shop-in-shops include resin art jewelry dishes and barrettes from New Street Co.; macramé earrings woven by 18-year-old Macey of The Twistery; and covetable pottery from talented local ceramicist Kyla Erickson.
